This currently running series written by Peter Avitabile features a variety of topics relating to modal analysis and its use for both analytical and experimental work. Some of the material presented here is excerpted from the multimedia format Modal Handbook on CD. This is the longest running series of articles to appear in Experimental Techniques.

MODAL ANALYSIS/DYNAMIC SYSTEMS REPORT - Updated May 2011

The Modal Analysis/Dynamic Systems technical division met at the IMAC XXIX conference in Jacksonville Florida. Attendees were: Chuck Van Karsen, Shaschank Chauhan, Jianpeng Feng, Dan Inman, and Timothy Cao.

The meeting centered on planning for IMAC XXX.  The following sessions/events will be developed and sponsored by the Modal TD at IMAC XXX:

Basics of Modal Analysis for the New/Young Engineer (1 day short course plus 1 day of demonstrations).  This course continues to be popular at IMAC. Over30 people attended the session at IMAC XXIX. For IMAC XXX and extra day is planned which will consist of live demonstrations of the topics that were presented on day one. Several IMAC vendors have agreed to support this session.
